Design79 teamed up with Spaceport Cornwall and LearnLive to create an educational broadcast showcasing Virgin Orbit's historical first UK launch.
With the broadcast going out to schools across the UK and Ireland, our Creative Director, Leo, developed the script and storyboard alongside Dave Pollard of Spaceport Cornwall.
Dave was thrilled to secure UK astronaut Tim Peake as co-presenter, alongside Rachel, a newcomer to the screen. Both were fantastic and brought a real sense of enthusiasm to the broadcast. Alongside these presenters was another, Ephraim From Falmouth University, who did a sterling job as our roving reporter.
The broadcast brings together all aspects of the UK’s space programme, along with showcasing businesses and individuals working in this exciting sector. Quizzes, maps and competitions help retain engagement and excitement as the broadcast builds to showing the Virgin Orbit launch sequence. Design79 brought onboard Crow Creative to capture the broadcasts, which spanned across locations at London Science Museum, Spaceport Cornwall and Goonhilly Earth Station.
The motion graphics, which built on the branding D79 has created for Spaceport Cornwall's Outreach programme, only add to the excitement and sense of a historical moment. The 45-minute film will be broadcast to hundreds of schools across the UK through the LearnLive channel, and will run alongside a live quiz and Q&A session following the launch sequence.
The subject matter is a natural draw, but D79 are delighted to have added extra punch through wider interviews within the Space sector along with fast-paced animation and graphics. D79 director Simon said, "This project has been a privilege and leads D79 into a new era of educational video production.
Our storytelling through video and social channels has grown rapidly - keep an eye out for further this year.
