During the lockdowns Esmée maintained fitness as best as possible, with open-water swims, land training and the generous offer of use of an outdoor pool.
As pools opened up Esmée was relieved to return to a full training schedule. After more than 12 months off the starters blocks the opportunity to partake in a gala was jumped at; the Level X Gala saw various swim clubs competing in their bubbles and posting times nationally through Swim England. Esmée achieved some impressive times, posting PBs in 200m Freestyle and 100m IM, as well as identifiying some areas to build on.
Next on the horizon is the first mixed club gala since early 2019. It’s been a while, and the atmosphere will require some careful adrenaline management. Fingers crossed that the determination to retain fitness throughout the lockdowns continues to pay off...
